As a French i remember that plane and the day of the crash on the news... I think we should create project Concorde 2 in coalition with Brits. When we do not wage war on each other we create the best, weather the Concorde or the tunnel under the channel, just marvel of engineering !

Thank you very much indeed for this historical journey and lesson for those who were not even born during Concorde's active time on this Earth. A truly remarkable time to be part of. And what a lesson we are taught in the process. For, MONEY and PROFIT becomes the route cause of why innovation is truly stifled. Yes, I know you'll tell me there will be innovations along the way, but there's no longevity. Why is it we can't buy a decent audio amplifier that lasts a decade? Why is it our smartphone software support expires after 5 years and its battery can't be replaced so easily? And then you read about some investment banker buying his 15TH 20 MILLION DOLLAR PROPERTY that he has no intention of living in for anymore than 30 days of the year? Well, I wish I could see Concord flying above the skies for all to enjoy and for all to be able to afford, but when all is said and done, we can only smile and say "what a great aircraft, a great innovation and the coming together of engineers".

Elon Musk has a better idea that can taken you from Los Angeles to Australia in 40 minutes. I like that better. Its basically a rocket ship that's travels in the upper part of the stratosphere and rockets itself to the destination. It will only work for coastal cities because it will have to be far enough because of the noise.

+TheGamingGeek yeah I did, and I also know more about the real reason behind halting supersonic flights. They all talk about economic feasibility and noise concerns in the video. If Air France could maintain Concorde flights more than 20 years and if there are very quite supersonic fighter jets today then both of these reasons are invalid. Maybe countries don't want thousands of supersonic commercial planes flying above for security and air traffic control reasons.

Hmmm...You are right in a way but that safety aspect should have been built into the play as the subsequent retro engineering proved. It wasn't impossible for a tyre to blow out on the plane & all it took, as indeed what happened, is for a chunk of that debris to smash into the tanks in the wing.

Hey Vox, don't be like Fox, make some fact checking. The sole and only crash of Concorde wasn't due to a "problem specific to Concorde's tires" but because it hit a titanium alloy strip on the runway lost by the preceding airplane, 5 minutes before, a DC10 operated by Continental Airlines. Both Continental Airlines and John Taylor, one of its mechanics, were found criminally responsible for their part in the disaster in December 2010.

5:27 The information concerning the cause of Flight AF4590 is not accurate. As with most air travel disasters it was the sum of many small events that summed up at the worst possible moment at the same time (The French BEA Authority have consistently denied the obvious evidence presented in French Courts to avoid embarrassment to the name of Concorde and France): 1) Air France made faulty maintenance on the landing gear which left the front wheel jammed like a supermarket trolley as it began take off 2) the plane was overloaded with fuel because the pilots were not made aware by the airport crew of extra baggage checked in by the passengers 3) The concorde skidded towards a 747 carrying then-President Jacques Chirac long before it hit the piece of metal from the Continental airlines DC-10 which has been accused as the sole responsible of the crash. There is photographic evidence of the skid marks in the runway 4) The concorde pilot was forced to take off at a lower speed than V1-V2 to avoid a collision with the 747 carrying the French President, highly suggesting that it was this and not the fire on the engine which caused the plane to stall. Other Concorde pilots have stated losing one engine at the right take off speed would have been survivable. Please be careful when oversimplifying. You can be very misleading and this was been observed in other VOX videos (Like the Hong Kong Border where you grossly omitted that it was opium wars that were fought between Britain and China because Britain was making a fortune off drug trafficking into China)

No. Communications technology killed the Concorde. It's only advantage to the consumer was speed. It was cramped, uncomfortable, and very expensive. Why spend six hours minimum getting from your office to a meeting on the other continent, when you can set up a televised call in minutes, and transfer documents back and forth electronically -- even sign them. Face it. The Concorde is not coming back.

These planes crossed the Atlantic every day for almost 30 years at Mach 2.... so how many flight hours were clocked up on each airframe... This aircraft NEVER FAILED.!!! It outlived most normal passenger planes by quiet a lot if anything... doing stuff that no other aircraft could do & still cant even be done today.. Why would anyone in their right mind call it a failed aircraft.!!! It just came to the end of its service life ..like every other aircraft did or will in time to come...

Vor 2 Monate
265justy
265justy

+AutogolazzoJr So what airliner did fly across the Atlantic faster than the Concorde??? 14 were built ...but only 14 were needed. It could only fly or was aloud fly at supersonic speeds over water and not over land.. So it was unsuitable for most other routes east of the UK and France..14 entered service and no more were needed . The French and Brits developed it and used it for their own purposes ..The Americans & Russians tried the develop an aircraft similar & failed.. Tax payers money was used ...but remember both Britsh Airways and Air France were owned and run by the government's of Britain & France...so it was obviously going to be tax payers money !! For any one to down this aircraft after it's long service of over 30 years & the fact it was an airliner that could sustain Mach 2 for very long periods ....more than most modern fighters can ....needs to go bang his head off a stone wall bud ..

Vor 16 Tage
AutogolazzoJr
AutogolazzoJr

+265justy It did not do what it was meant to do. It was meant to be a success. Let me repeat: The concorde received no orders. The concorde was funded with taxpayer dollars. Only 14 concordes were built. No concordes were sold (Above the price of £1) The concorde was never updated. Btw, the concorde did not fly the fastest or cross the Atlantic faster. It wasn't even the first sst.

Vor 17 Tage
265justy
265justy

+AutogolazzoJr It still done what it was meant to do. It crossed the Atlantic quicker than anything else and it was never meant to be a budget travellers mode of transport..You want to get there quicker than the average Boeing or Airbus could...then up pay. It's called First Class...it was never going to serve with Ryan Air or Easy Jet..LOL..

Vor 17 Tage
AutogolazzoJr
AutogolazzoJr

+265justy That doesn't mean anything in terms of business. The Concorde was designed to revolutionize air travel, and bring the world into a supersonic age. That never happened. Only the extremely rich could fly supersonic with two airlines and very little routes.

Vor 17 Tage
265justy
265justy

+AutogolazzoJr An airliner that first flew almost 50 years ago & an airliner that cruised at 1300 mph....50 years on & there is nothing to match its capability.. Go back 50 years again before the Concorde & see what was flying in 1919 !!! Aviation advanced so much in that space of time from the 1920s to the 1970s & it was the Concorde that stood out the most. Planes that were built in the 70's are still flying today & aviation has not advanced in anyway. Most of what came from that era is still every bit as good as todays aircraft. The Concorde was an icon & still unmatched...
